Farmhouse in the city

It was such a joy to help a friend think through the rooms in her new farmhouse located in the city. Out of that time together, I got the very fun task of shopping for some accessories for a hutch she had inherited from her old home. We both share a love for color but she wanted more muted tones and a more “grown up” farmhouse look. They got to work painting and I got to shopping!

Here’s what we started with

Maiasaura

My good friend Maia got her nickname when we realized that part of her name was spelled exactly like the dinosaur Maiasaura which means “good mother”. That’s the dinosaur always found protecting the eggs in a nesting colony. A perfect nickname for my dinosaur loving boys and for me who loves the way she cares for our family. So our Maiasaura needed a little updating to her nest and it was a pleasure to jump in and help her make it feel like home. We found a gold buffet/console that anchors the whole living room and we went from there! The rug pulled everything together and made those velvet pillows pop! SM

A CHURCHILL BROWNSTONE

I had so much fun putting a new shine to an old friend's home here in Richmond.  Even though it's a free standing house it reminds me of the old brownstones I'd see when we lived in Boston.  So we went with that vibe as we freshened up the kitchen, main living space, den, and dining room.  I was thinking Boho- ivy league and was happily surprised with the turn out.  It was such a good time as we put to use old treasures that are now front and center.  Ashley had more than a few paintings given to her by talented friends.  We had a good laugh over ones she inherited because they had been left out in the rain.  I was all like,”I gotta get me some of those rain paintings!”.
