The Stricklers

Leave it to my oldest friend, the one I’ve known since I was three, to give me the keys to her kingdom. She let me work on her first home and now she was moving into a new one that needed her old familiar pieces to work hard and new elements to tie it all together. The top two photos are of the downstairs office. We were working around the existing paint color and wanted to make use of the built in office desk and her loveseat, side table, bookcase and coffee table. To freshen things up we painted the coffee table and bookcase a pale aqua. The pillows are from World Market and the throw is from Pottery Barn. Aqua glass bubble lamp from Pier one. I papered the back of the office built ins with damask scrapbooking paper to add interest to the all white cabinetry.

Below is the dining room buffet. It was a new Ikea piece that we painted with Sherwin Williams Turquish to ground the flurry of aquas and greens that were all over the rest of the dining room. The walls were painted with SW Aquatint. We used an outdoor fabric for the drapery panels opposite the buffet: Waverly’s Santa Maria Mint julep. The Capiz shell mirrors stole the show and calmed the rest of the room down.

Below right is the eat in kitchen window bench that we overhauled with new fabrics to modernize the very traditional kitchen area. The beautiful table came with the house and was in great condition. I painted the legs only, a light blue to add a subtle kick. The chair upholstered seats were recovered to match the pillow fabrics selected.
